Remember to Stay Hydrated

Our bodies are 70 percent water. Not drinking enough water causes leptin resistance and stops fat loss, even if you have a healthy diet. Good hydration helps burn fat by decreasing inflammation and helping your metabolic machinery function. Studies have shown that drinking a full glass of water before each meal lowers appetite.

I tell my patients to drink 2 quarts (1.9 L) of filtered water every day. Cold water helps boost metabolism because it forces the body to burn more calories to generate body heat, but it is okay to drink warm or hot beverages and other calorie-free beverages, such as flavored waters, sparkling water, unsweetened tea, or coffee.

You should not drink sweetened beverages, such as sodas, juice, or sweet tea, because they are high in sugar and calories. Diet drinks and other artificially sweetened beverages should be consumed in limited amounts or avoided altogether. Numerous studies have linked artificial sweeteners to weight gain because the artificial sweetness combined with no calories confuses the brain into thinking that sugar is coming, but it never does. This results in hunger and sugar cravings that can last for hours or days.

Remembering to drink water can be difficult for some people. As we get older, we lose our sense of thirst. You can increase your fluid intake by keeping a water bottle with you. Invest in a good BPA-free water bottle, fill it in the morning, and take it with you as a matter of course. This way, you don’t have to buy water and you have it nearby, encouraging you to drink freely throughout the day.

Look Out for Limes; They May Disrupt Hormones

Although it is perfectly fine to use lime as a flavoring from time to time, studies have shown that daily consumption of lime juice can disrupt hormones.
